You do not hear it in the American mainstream as one would in other places in the world because big companies think it is not commerically viable! Wrong! Notice that american style Rap music fails and rarely goes Gold on internation Pop charts all the time. Also, Disco has mutated into hundreds of individual styles since 1980 such as Dance-pop, Hi-NRG, New Wave, Synth-Pop, Rave, Italo House, Italo Disco, Discofox, Progressive House, Garage/House, Vocal House, Tribal House, Latin-House, Merenhouse (Merengue and House music combined), Filtered House, vocal Trance, Progressive Trance, Euro-trance, Detriot Techno, New York House, Freestyle, Latin Freestyle, Newbeat, Eurodance, Breakbeat, Drum and Bass, among others. It is still here, just take a closer look, beyond the surface. Also, Electronic/Dance music now has its own album chart, the "Top Electronic Albums" chart and it has its own Awards Show/Gala during the "Winter Music Conference" called, the "International Dance Music Awards" (IDMA) held in Miami, Florida every March since 1984. Damn. He is collecting social security and living down in a two room bungalow in Miami Beach with his buddy Tony Manero. They collect extra side cash teaching little old ladies how to relive the Disco nights and selling boogie shoes on Saturday nights. Happy birthday ((LadyBugzz))

Disco has apparently been edged out by what is known as rap which is just crap without the c. You could always subscribe to XM radio and tune in a disco only station and listen away!
