Bottles come in all shapes and sizes. Many people prefer using the smaller 3-5 ounce sizes at the beginning because the baby only takes a couple ounces per feeding and with less airspace in the bottle, there seems to be less burping and gas build up in the baby's stomach. I nursed until my son was almost 8 months old, but he often took pumped milk from the bottle. We used playtex bottles with the drop in insert. That was best for us because it didn't matter how much we put in the bag, you press the air out of them and there's less gasses for the baby. Same for formula. So, yes, you can start a baby on a bottle at anytime. There are different kinds of nipples though. You want to start the baby on a stage one which is a slow flow and as the baby gets older and needs more food you can build up to a stage 2 medium or a stage 3 fast. By then (11 or 12 months) the baby could be using a sippy cup.

You mean bottle sizes or nipple sizes? Nipples come in Stage 1 and Stage 2. Sizes of those stages vary by brand. For example, in AirVent bottles you can start directly from Stage 2 nipple, as Stage 1 is extremely hard to use for newborns. My son tried really hard, and in 15 minutes he could only get but 1 ounce, so I just stopped torturing him and gave him stage 2 and he was fine. So, it all really depends on the brand, and you need to try yourself and see what works best for you and your baby!

Also, if the bottle is introduced before your baby is 3 weeks old, chance are he/she won't have any problems with it later. Introducing a bottle after that age maybe more difficult, as the baby may not want to take it.

Hope I answered all your questions. Good luck!

Yes there are! YOu should start with the slowest flow for a younger baby and move up to medium then fast as they grow older. (unless you have to add cereal to the formula for some reason which will need a faster flow nipple b/c it gets thick.)

There are two I know of. A stage one and a stage two. the first one is until they can hold their head up by themselves with no problem. the second is for after they can.
