And Conversely.. . . .Do you think the Conservatives will one day thank the Liberals for keeping alternative fuels in the mainstream ?

Time will pass, and eventually everyone will understand the HUGE threat of Radical Islam and the TRUE DANGER of letting them get ahold of another country(Iraq) . And time will pass and we'll all be grateful for focusing more on alternative fuels . In fact, the two intertwine to a degree .

What do you think ?

If we work TOGETHER - there is NOTHING we can't accomplish.
We are the greatest nation on earth and The United States of AMERICA should come first - not political parties.

No, I don't think that the conservatives have even protected America. Rather they destroyed her by using terrorism as an excuse to do it. They passed the Patriot Act that violates the Constitution. The Military Commissions Act that allows the President to arrest anyone as an unlawful enemy combatant. The Real ID Act institutes a national ID card. And yes all of this legislation was passed under the threat that another terrorist attack will happen if they didn't have these so called "tools" to fight them. Which just isn't true. We also have Bush issuing signing statements that allow him to open your mail without a warrant. And that is a complete violation of the Fourth Amendment. We have document called the Constitution that limits the government's powers. And in that document lies the Bill of Rights, rights that are guaranteed to the people that the government cannot take away and is suppose to protect, but sadly has been taken away. Not to mention, allow Bin Laden to get away. Who was in Afghanistan not Iraq. By the way, we will never focus on alternative energy sources with Bush and Cheney and others being involved with the oil business it would be bad for them.

Actually, I don't think liberals *are* keeping alternative fuels in the mainstream. All I keep hearing about is resistance to alternative fuels from everyone - it's the whole "not in MY backyard" thing. I can't remember where exactly this happened, but a company was trying to put up some of those wind mills that they use to generate power. It was in some fancy-schmancy neighborhood, so they all had a fit. I think they should have been told too damned bad - if the gov't can seize your property for business, they sure as hell should be able to seize it for alternative energy. They weren't trying to take anyone's property, just to clarify - but I don't see why "the greater good" wouldn't be served by having the wind mills installed.

And no, I don't think Liberals will EVER thank anyone. They want to destroy America, and conservatives stand in their way. Conservatives see nothing wrong with being proud to be American, or Canadian, or British....liberals want us to be "global" citizens.

Certainly there is a confluence of petro- dollars and terrorist funding; this should be beyond refute.

However, while the issue of alternate fuel sources is not the sole custom of liberals, you do raise a laudable point; we as Americans need to band together in order to provide for our future security

history will vindicate everyone?

i doubt it. radical islam might be a threat, but i'm hard pressed to see it. it appears that the threat consists of crazy dudes who periodically figure out how to do something spectacular. but really, what else can they do? the notion of a centralized network functioning like an army we can defeat is not born out by the evidence. what true danger is it that you see? the danger that in continuing to poke them with a stick we give them a reason to hate america first and foremost?

on the other hand, alternative fuels probably don't go far enough. i say this again based on the evidence that suggests global warming. it is not enough to be less bad, we have missed that opportunity. with china revving up to become a real first world country, we're looking as exponentially increasing our emissions.

really, why is radical islam a threat we can address meaningfully through war? how do we root out the people who mean us harm without enormous amounts of casualties as they hide among civilian populations? these are wars that will only enlarge our problems because they cannot be fought with enough care or attention to detail. the two are completely intertwined only because we are being so studiously ignorant about our choices. let's continue to destabilize areas pursuing a resource we shouldn't continue to use... hooray!

Maybe in about 100 years!!

It seems the era of cooperative politics is over. I feel sort of sorry for a Democrat that might win the presidency in 2008 because you know the Republicans are already sharpening their claws to get back at the Dems for their treatment of Bush.

You've got to be kidding!!!! The country is so divided, that it is pathetic. It would be so new if the politicians would do something to solve some of the problems in this country, rather that watch the polls and do what they think is necessary to get reelected.

It seems they all spend more time finger-pointing and name calling than thanking, unfortunately.

Yes, I do think that both party's different ways of doing things and different parties forms a natural system that helps America, despite the way it divides us and puts us at odds with each other.

The conservatives and Bush never protected us. That is why we were attacked on 9/11. Bush failed to read and listen to all the security issues and warnings that all the intelligence agencies put forth. And, then got us into a war in a country that had nothing to do with 9/11 or attacking us. there is not one conservative to thank. I mean, come on, where is OBL and Al Zarwiri?
