That is my theory. I think this tech bubble we had back in the mid to late 90's was just a scheme where they sold everybody a computer so they could throw away their family fortunes on it!

No, stock investing becomes popular with the average guy just when the market is near its peak. It has done so for centuries, and it will continue to do so for centuries.

Why? Because Mr Average doesn't realise that to be successful on the stock market (over time) takes skill. When the bubble starts rising, everybody thinks it is easy money. More and more people pile in, because his friend made a killing. And eventually the whole thing collapses.

Only to restart.

That is pretty much when I started investing big time....back in 1996......from then until March of 2000 everything I touched turned to instant fortune....but then the bear hit (dot com bust) and then my whole portfolio went down 65% from top to bottom. I kept buying even though I hated the market at that time and now I am back in the black and much more confident in my investments.......I am not holding forever either. you have to know when to take a profit cause another bear will hit SOMETIME.

I used to buy stock from the local bank before ETrade came around. I believe the internet has provided an easier and larger market for the common person.

Computers just made it easier of course. It;'s just another excuse to sit on our holes in front of a computer, as if we didn't have enough already.
