Bush was doing alright in the aftermath of 9/11 until he decided to drop the search for Bin Laden in Afghanistan and invade Iraq instead. The incursion in Afghanistan was justified since it was known to be a haven for Al Qeada but there were no proven reasons for us to launch an invasion of Iraq. Time was not of an essence to invade, the time should have been taken to prove or disprove that Saddam had WMD that he had intentions of using on our or other countries.

Bush messed up once he invaded Iraq, before that he was doing great!
Iraq came down to one big poker hand gamble. Was there WMD there or not? The Bush admin, went all in that they would find WMD in Iraq. The politics of the situation were this. If he found the WMD, he would be the man...but if he didn't it would ruin his presidency, the bottom line is he didn't. He went bust.
From that moment on everything went to hell in a hand basket and fast.
1. He and his people alloted not to invade Iraq with the reccomended amount of troops to secure the country, and even worse, they fired a well respected general who had told them they needed more troops.
2. They began giving no bid contracts to Haliburton involving Iraq. This made the Iraq war to appear to be planned for reasons other than what was stated. This basically undermined the entire reason for going to war and cemented it.
3. He denied that there was a growing insurgency in Iraq. This further undermined him and made him appear to be incompetent.
4. He said that the oil from Iraq would pay for the war...instead oil prices in the U.S. rose to levels never seen before in history.
5. He ordered the Marines to retreat from Fullujah after they were about to take the city and the insurgents down in it, that following year, fallujah would become a base of be-headings and terror operations for Alqaeda. It would be an entire year later before we would take over the city.
6. He allowed the entire Iraqi army to go home after they were captured at the end of the fighting. Now our troops are re-fighting those same men in civillian clothes.
7. He allowed Al Sadr and his men to go home after the marines had him cornered in a mosque, now he's trying to kill Al Sadr but it's too late...he let him go!
8. Then there was hurricane katrina, although not part of Iraq, it showed a man and an administration completely out of sync with each other. The level of incompetence caused Americans to ask the question, how can we win a war in Iraq if we can't even win New orleans.

The mistakes go on and on and on and on. Sometimes, you just don't get 5 and 6 chances to redeem your mistakes.

I would have sent 300,000 troops into Iraq to smash the country and all the insurgency. Then I would take the 300k in Iraq and the 150k in Afghanistan and I would take Iran. After that I would take Pakistan and then there would be no more OBL. If the terrorism continued beyond 4 years I would destroy Mecca and Medina. But I am a heartless a$$ that feels that if we threaten the holiest site in Islam, Islam will stand up and put an end to the small percentage of fundamentalists that are trying to destroy the world.

I would have sat off shore with my Naval forces and would have turned the one middle east Country after another into a sand box until they presented Bin laden's head on a spit

I'd have:

- focused on Afghanistan,
- got authorization from Pakistan to send troops to guard the Afghanistan-Pakistan border,
- broken ties to the Saudis and
- subjected the Egyptian government to investigation.

I would have attacked Afghanistan like Bush did, as they were directly connected to 9-11. I would have worked tirelessly until Bin Ladin was dead, and then I would have brought our servicemen home and would put billions into protecting our borders and harbors and improving intelligence to prevent future attacks.

Osama was the target, post 911 I would stop at nothing to get him. I would engage in diplomacy with any country that was remotely helpful. I would encourage education to reach all corners of the world to combat fundamentalism.

Punish the ones who actually commit the crime. Work with our friends to minimize terrorist activity within the framework of law, and always look for peaceful solutions to problems first.

It's only a matter of time until one of our brilliant Yahoo leftists trots out the "My Pet Goat" line of BS. I guess in their distorted little world, the President should have run out of the school, pearl-handled revolvers blazing à la Patton, and attempted to shoot the offending airliners out of the sky.
