we have those long fluorescent light bulbs in our office and our boss claims that is why it's so hot in here. could he be right?

Yes, they do release heat. While an incandescent lamp will convert about 10% of the energy into visible light, fluorescent will convert between 30 and 40%, still leaving most of the electricity used as waste heat.

partially corrent. The energy is converted to heat but that's not hot enough to heat up the room, tell your boss to study physics =p
