I am on tiscali broadband which I have never been very happy with as i constantly lose my connection. At 1st I thought it was my phone line but then we moved house and it continued to happen , so now I'm starting to think it may be the modem as its 2 years old and has been around ! so can I buy any modem to receive my broad band ?

It could be many things.

The modem, as you suggested, may be worn out or just not able to keep up with modern tech.

Your network card might also be suffering the same problem.

It could also be your DSL provider. Call and ask them if it is normal to get as many kick offs as you get.

i would check with your provider first as they might have a replacement policy on the modem. i worked for an internet provider and they would exchange modems for free as long as you were a customer with that company. also if it is broadband (cable or dsl) they can also run tests on your modem to see how it is functioning. if you are on dial up internet, then there could be some settings that may need to be adjusted in the computer. things like power management can cause the modem to go offline after a period of time and there is a setting that will cause the modem to disconnect after it is idle for so many minutes. one final thing to check is call waiting if you subscribe to it. make sure it is off when you dial to your internet provider.

first thing i would do is call your internet provider and explain the problem to them. then go from there.

Change your Internet provider and then they will set you up with a new modem.!!

Only your internet provider can answer that question. Different ISP's in different areas sometimes only work with certain models.
