ok i am not goth, but i would really like to paint my room black because...1. I am a very messy person and any other colors would just make them appear brighter. ...2. black would complement my wall decor. my mother will not let me paint it black because she thinks its satanic or whatever. what can i do to convince her? serious answers please.

Word of advice - use matte black. Unless your walls are extremely smooth, any type of gloss is going to show every brush stroke and every crack.

Perhaps you could convince her to let you do just one accent wall? If she sees how good it looks and how you decorate around it (with non-satanic objects, lol) she may see the "light."

Oh, and perhaps you could find pictures of other black rooms? Again avoiding rooms decorated by dark and twisted types. Do you happen to know any interior decorators? That's a stretch, but you never know.

One more thing. I did paint my bedroom black (hence my advice about the type of paint to use). As an adult so only had to "ask" my husband. Anyway I had planned on doing an African theme which I never really got around to. But I digress. My point is that it is not that difficult to paint over. I went from black to a light green. You would have to put on a coat or two of primer to cover the black before adding another color, but honestly it's not that big a deal.

One more thing - you might want to post your question again in the decorating section. I know you want advice on dealing with your mother, but there you may get useful painting/decorating tips. If you can apply any of those, it may help in convincing her to let you do this.

properly, portray it black motives an optical phantasm which will make your room look smaller, and seeing no longer something yet black for prolonged classes of time has been time-honored to ruin the eyes. maximum goths don't have paint their rooms black both (smile). actually, i'd both ask for gray ("it is like pastel black,") attempt your next prominent colour, or conceal the partitions with posters. good success.

Well, painting it black causes an optical illusion which will make your room appear to be smaller, and seeing nothing but black for extended periods of time has been known to damage the eyes. Most goths don't have paint their rooms black either (smile). Honestly, I would either ask for gray ("It's like pastel black,") try your next favorite color, or cover the walls with posters. Good luck.

Ok well this is just a suggestion but how about getting removable black wallpaper. I have a 14 year old & I really pray she'd never want black but if she did, I'd make her a deal that she would have to pay fot it herself & it would have to be easily removable. That way both of us would be happy. I don't know if they make removable wallpaper but if they did & she paid for it I'd help her put it up. See what your mom thinks
