To run for president you have to be a native of the United States and be at least 35 years old. No military qualification is needed. If elected you do become the Commander in Chief.

John Quincy Adams
Martin Van Buren
Grover Cleveland He was drafted during the Civil War, but
paid $150 for a substitute (a legal option under the terms of
the Conscription Act of 1863, and the man survived the war).
William Taft
Woodrow Wilson President during World War I.
Warren G. Harding
Calvin Coolidge
Herbert Hoover served in a private (civilian) humanitarian
capacity in Europe during World War I
Franklin D. Roosevelt attempted to join the Navy during the
Spanish American War but was unable as he contracted
measles. Served as Assistant Secretary of the Navy in World
War I
Bill Clinton Student deferment.

And this guy was never an officer: James Buchanan, he never rose higher than Private.

There is no law stating that you have to have served in the military. Several past presidents did not serve. Bill didn't serve.

Well George Bush joined the Air National Guard but he never served. Does anyone know anything substantial he has done other than steal the presidency twice.

there is no law stating you have to have served in the military....The President must be a natural born citizen of the United States (or a citizen of the United States at the time the U.S. Constitution was adopted), at least 35 years of age, and a resident of the United States for at least fourteen years.

Read up on your facts. Serving time in the military is not a prerequisite for becoming President.

The way John Kerry, and all of the suckers that believed his war hero spew talked in 2004, you'd not only think that military service was a requirement for the office, but that non veterans weren't even allowed to discuss the war in Iraq.

That is not true, and could not be true; the qualifications to become President are defined in the Constitution, and are not subject to alteration by law.

You better read up on your law there isn't any law to say that you had to serve on the military, Bill Clinton wasn't in the service and Bush didn't report half the time. He was ask to if wanted to go Viet Nam he said no way. He was to busy hitting that cocaine and Jack Daniels take a physical when his Commanding officer told him to go take, why he was to messed up and drunk.

to have to be born in the us and 35 you dont need to have been in the military at all.
