Excellent question. I believe that our obsession for guns stems from the American Revolution. Before we gained our freedom guns were prohibited and British soldiers could come in and take over our homes and businesses at their leisure. Our forefathers introduced the second amendment to the constitution - We have the right to bear arms.

There is a big problem with guns in this country. Hand guns and automatic weapons are for sale everywhere. We have insufficient gun control. Until we regulate our guns better many people, including children will die needlessly.

though big chunks of our population do love their guns, not everyone in the states own a fire arm.

the movies does make it seem like more people are armed, then they really are.

having the right to carry a gun is something that Americans hold dear, even if they don't have one or not. We like the ideal that we have the right to protect our selves or defend the country in cause the British try to reclaim their colonies again.

It's not normal, it's illegal. And despite a few highly visual School-shootings, like Columbine and Red Lake, school is statistically the safest place for a school-aged child to be.
