No - jealousy is one of the most destructive forces in our society.

Let's see: My husband and I have had both men and women antagonize us because they were jealous of our relationship. I've had women antagonize me because they were jealous of my husband, and men antagonize me because they were jealous that he had me. I didn't speak to one of my sisters for a year after my wedding, because she was jealous of my engagement, and tried to sabotage the wedding.

I've had so many divorced women at work give me a hard time over my happy marriage that I don't even talk about my husband, put wedding pictures on my desk, or wear my engagement ring to job interviews anymore. Women tend to get jealous of a big shiny diamond, so I just wear my simple platinum wedding band and save the big diamond for special occasions.

Women especially are COMPETITIVE in our society, and our culture fosters that. There's a tendency to compare ourselves to others, and then become mean and antagonistic to those who we think have it "better." "Oooooh, she's married and has those nice shoes, I HATE her! Her husband puts the seat down and mine doesn't, what a B I T C H!" Yes, it does get to that level sometimes, I've literally seen it among the secretaries at my firm.

The thing is, that kind of jealousy of other women is self-indulgent at best, and bigoted at worst. It also keeps women from forming supportive friendships that might make their lives a great deal happier.

I mostly agree with Guernica except that there is one good thing about jealousy:

A little bit of jealousy in a relationship shows the other person that you are very emotionally connected to them.

Too much jealousy in a relationship causes problems because it becomes too one-sided (self-centered).

No jealousy in a relationship can cause problems because one person can view it as "you just don't care enough" when there is no reaction what-so-ever to something that the other should get jealous over. It's a dead feeling.

If you are trying to see the positive side of being jealous, it's a sign that you care about your partner, to the point that it's made you develop jealousy

i think it can have good points, as in it forces u to think out situations, compare it to others, and possibly help u come up w/ a solution.

however, it is harboring jealously, or acting on it in a negative fashion, that will lead to much harm. we gotta use logic and reason as well as our hearts to understand our feelings and "master" them so to speak. having jealous feeligns sometimes just mean u are human, u are caring, u want something good (or bad).... and it's not going ur way. but acting on it turning it to vengeance or hatred or cruelty is the problem

yes, because it makes you strive to be a better person if you are jealous of a good trait someone has.
