I have been breast feeding my child, she is 5 months old. She had an issue with reflux and gas so in order to avoid giving her medication i didn't give her formula for sometime because i was told that breast milk was easier to digest. I have introduced formula to her. The last formula i gave her was prosobee but she ended up throwing up from it, but she didn't mind the taste she actually drank the formula without any problems. My dr. suggested nutramagen i have been trying to give this to her but she hardly will drink an ounce. Granted i have only tried for 2 days. I just wanted to know if anyone had any advice on how to slowly transition her to formula. I have no problem being patient with the process but i feel bad because she really doesn't like the taste and i feel bad making her take something she doesn't like. It does taste and smell HORRIBLE. I wanted to started giving her one feed a day and then slowly increase the number of feeds. Any suggestions would be VERY helpfu

Formula is new to your baby. She is use to your brest milk. i would keep trying 2 days is not enough time for her to adjust. whatever you do DON'T PUT CERAL IN HER BOTTLE.

What I would do is introduce it slowly. For a week, mix your breast milk with the formula, with the first days being mostly breast milk and some formula. As you go on through the week, work with less breast milk and more formula. The second week, go to the mostly formula with little breast milk. By the end of the second week, be all formula. I think doing it easily like that may help. Another thing to try if this isn't practical, is to mix the formula with a half-ounce to an ounce of juice to give it a different flavor (this is what worked with our daughter).

Good luck!!

What you are describing is exactly what both of my youngest daughters did. They threw up too after having reg formula. Try a little rice cereal inside the formula. Just a little, about 1 tsp every 2 oz is fine for starters. If that is not helping alot, then increase to the point that you have about 2 oz of rice cereal powder in an 8 oz bottle. They still spit up a little, but no wheres near what it was like before. She should grow out of it in about 6 months.

PUmp your breast milk and give her mostly that with just a little of the formula to start. If she's o.k. with that for a few days, then up the percentage of the formula for the next few days and continue until she no longer needs the breast milk.

If it tastes and smells horrible (which formula usually does)... I don't blame her for not wanting to eat it. How about adding a little juice to her bottle to try and improve the taste? Or, mixing the formula she enjoyed with the new stuff? Or, see if there are any other brands you could try?

it sounds like she is dehydrated you need to get some liquid into her somehow since she has had a fever the milk may be making her stomach upset so give that up for now get her some gatorade (same thing as pedialyte but less sugar and much cheaper) or anything else with added electrolytes this will keep her hydrated with less liquid get her into a doctor asap but don't worry about it to much as long as you are getting something into her for the night she will be fine until you can get her into the doc tomorrow go ahead and call the doc office they may tell you to go on into the ER or they may even have an after hours doc

My son will drink any formula, the different tastes don't bother him at all (when he was tiny we had to switch formulas several times) but he WILL NOT drink Nutramigen...try the Similac brand of it, Alimentum. Maybe that will help. :) Good luck
