the 80s
I love the back to the future movies. And the ideas that are overdone now were original then.

I agree with the 40s, and the "Golden Age" of American Cinema.
If you're talking about world cinema, then 50s and 60s probably count, with the French New Wave, peple like Kurosawa, Antonioni, Il Maestro, etc. But in the U.S., I'd have to say after the 40s (with some 30s) comes the 90s or 00s. The advent of wide-release indpendent movies and DVDs, and digital production (and studios willing to take risks) has spawned many, many great movies that would never otherwise have been made. And I think there are a higher percentage of quality movies.

The Nineteen Thirties Duck Soup Mr. Smith is going to Washington The Scarlet Empress A Farewell to hands you won't be able to Take It With You Little women human beings city light fixtures Grand phantasm Ninotchka The record can bypass on and on. As for why: contained in the Nineteen Thirties the tremendous exhibit screen performers had extra oomph than performers of the different decade. The actors and actresses breathed existence into their characters. contained in the Nineteen Thirties the finished melancholy had struck demanding and seeing how the films gave some solace to existence i imagine this become the most acceptable decade for video clips. this variety of tremendous number of properly widely used characters, video clips, performers, and directors got here out of this decade that inspired the a lengthy time period to go back.

My wife and I have discussed this in the past. She likes the 50's because of the musicals but I like the 60's and 70's more. The 60's for their action films, period pieces and for the growing cultural and social change depicted. The 70's for the power and excess the movies became, for good and bad. If I had to choose, I guess I'd take the 60's.

Before I saw the details of your question, I was thinking 1940's as well. But there was a period during the late 60's and early 70's that had a significant number of impactful films in different genres. Perhaps it's because I was born in 1960, but it seemed like a mini-Golden Age to me at the time.

There's no contest there. The 80's dominated when it comes to movies.
Raging Bull -1980
Blade Runner - 1982
The Empire Strikes Back -1980
Raiders Of The Lost Ark - 1981
The Terminator - 1984
Batman -1989
Just to name a few.

probably the 40's and 50's. they couldn't, wouldn't, and didn't rely on graphic sex scenes, blood and guts along with foul language to carry the show so they had to have good scripts. sure there were some real turkeys, but not many! even some of the early 60's were pretty good. and no i am not old........i just enjoy a movie that actually has a story to it.
there are modern day exceptions to this, ie: star wars, lord of the rings, potter movies.................
