You CAN be Catholic and pro abortion - you just can't be a GOOD CATHOLIC and she has shown that she is NOT!

She can't. It is that simple. During the last election, the Church made it very clear that pro-abortion/pro-choice candidates and elected officials were clearly going against Church teaching. They went even further, indicating that Catholics can not vote for pro-abortion/pro-choice candidates.

In doing so, a number of Bishop's indicated that if John Kerry came into one of their Churches, they would have to refuse him the Eucharist.

The same decisions would apply to Speaker Pelosi.

Let's not be too hasty.

It is possible, however unlikely, that Nancy Pelosi actually does not know that abortion is morally unacceptable under all circumstances.

More likely, she knows darn well what the Catholic Church's stance on abortion is, but has chosen to ignore it. She may believe the Church's teaching is wrong. She may believe it is right, but is ignoring it in favor of personal political gain.

There are any number of reasons why she is a Catholic that actively promotes a Culture of Death. One only knows where she truly stands by looking in her heart.

The statement might be more accurate had you said, "you can't be a 'good Catholic' and pro-abortion."

While taking a pro-abortion stance is indeed grossly unCatholic, we must remember that we all have moral weaknesses that prevent us form being as good-a-Catholic as we can be.

"... Nancy Pelosi, who is a faithful Catholic ..." Stop right there. She is a Catholic, all right, because she was baptized Catholic. But by no stretch of the imagination can she be considered "faithful". If you're going to characterize her by her Catholicism, then the word "nominal" is much more accurate. However, no, she can't get "kicked out" of Congress except at election time, and then only if she doesn't get enough votes to return her to Washington. Any bishop or priest, however, can certainly deny her Holy Communion based on her public opposition to Catholic teaching and the scandal it gives to the Church.

Of course you can be catholic and pro-abortion. I am, for instance.

Just because you call yourself a catholic, it doesn't mean that you have to adopt all the catholic views on things.

Someone can be a misguided Catholic and “pro-choice.”

This is especially harmful when they are people of influence like politicians, who because of their influence may unduly direct others toward "the culture of death" instead of the "consistent ethic of life."

Politically supporting abortion is not a offense for which one can be excommunicated.

The Church law involved is Canon 915: Those who are excommunicated or interdicted after the imposition or declaration of the penalty and others who obstinately persist in manifest grave sin are not to be admitted to Holy Communion.

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops' statement "Catholics in Political Life" says:

Therefore, like every Catholic generation before us, we must be guided by the words of St. Paul, “Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of profaning the Body and Blood of the Lord” (1 Cor 11:27).

And continues that it is up to each Bishop in their diocese and on a case by case basis to decide whether or not to deny Holy Communion to Catholic politicians because of their public support of abortion.

Because being pro abortion gets you elected. She just wants to wear the title of Catholic and promote liberal views.

Actually she's not. Any officeholder who has a chance to stop the holocaust of abortion but does not do so has already incurred a latae sententiae excommunication. This is one which does not need to be formalized by a bishop, it simply IS.

The part that frosts me is why Archbishop Niederauer of San Francisco admits her to the Sacraments at all.

It never ceases to amaze me how people will declare that a person can't be a part of a group, whether it is religious, political or whatever just because they don't follow in lock step with every principle of that group. This is just an excuse to vent hatred on some one you think is evil because of their stance on abortion. Nancy Pelosi is pro-choice, not pro-abortion. Clear your head and put some thought to that, there is a difference.
