Painfully.....it is a sad state of affairs for a Network deal in the US. Is Versus better than the Outdoor Life Network? LOL

.....the mid-week deal was Bettman's idea of 'promoting' the game......in an attempt to test out how it does...as a result of Major League Baseball having their All Star game mid-week.....

Bettman needs to go.

I agree with all the answers before mine, but there is something that I'd like to share that may be a part of the explanation.

The contract with Versus might be more advantageous to the NHL because ESPN will always go after what sells. The NBA, NCAA, NFL, MLB, all vie for air time, whereas the Versus Channel doesn't have all that competition and the NHL might have seen that as an opportunity to grow.

Yeah, I know it's a stretch to suggest that the movers and shakers running (ruining?) the NHL actually have a plan that makes some sense but they'd probably prefer to be lucky than good.

I don't like the changes that have been made. If they would not be so anal-retentive about interference calls and let the players decide the outcome it would make me feel like watching it more. To suggest changing the goal size is blasphemous to me. I read a rumor that the Pens are considering moving to Houston, there are too many teams, the league lacks a common monetary unit, and they wouldn't know how to market a glass of water to a person stranded in the desert.

I think they should cancel the All-Star game altogether. For some reason, I just can't get into it. And if they are gonna have it, why not have it in a place like Winnipeg, just for the hell of it? I'm sure they would put on a show, the likes of which the hockey world has never seen before. Some place (Read: Dallas) don't deserve it.

the only one I particularly have a situation with is Gonchar. Michalek became maximum well known in objectives in the previous a concussion. Spezza's at a PPG %., Alf's doing properly for his age. Karlsson is truthfully deserving. Gonchar? Meh. yet there is often dud interior the ASG. i will recover from it. it particularly is not like the NHL positioned him in. The followers did.

they signed a contract with ESPN just before the lookout and throughout the lookout that's when ESPN tore up the contract. Bettman was trying to well actually needed to find some American broadcast to televise the games to get some money. and now cause of this Versus channel the All-Star game has to be played on Wednesday. but it should always be on Saturday night hockey.l

Well Cable TV is responsible Now for every Sports All-Star Game, Versus is NHL, TNT is NBA, ESPN is NFL, and TBS is MLB, they figure more Revenue more Money, they lose money on ABC, CBS, NBC, and Fox, which one of each ios responsible for the Superbowl, NBA Finals, Stanley Cup and World Series.

It all about Money.
