Pointless to speculate. In order to answer the question, you would have to cease existing, which nullifies the question. Is the earth a better place without purple, nine-legged chickens?

No way!!! Human existence makes this world a better place. It's true that we cause wars, we damage the environment, be destructive sometimes. But despite all this we may be considered as big builders. Human invent things, play music, write poems, help one-another, and some of us even do make extraordinary efforts to change this world for better. We'd never know how Earth would be without humans, because we wouldn't be there. But we do know how it is WITH humans. I've still got some faith in humans, I choose to trust them, to trust us, though we may not deserve that .But despite all that we give this world spirit, joy, feelings, thoughts and nothing can be compared to that.

No, we may have damaged the planet somewhat but every technology capable species that has inhabited the earth before us has done much worse. There is no way anyone could avoid evolution on earth to the point of acheiving a technology capable species for an unlimited period of time, so we may actually be one of the best things to happen to the earth in all it's history.

The Earth will always be the same with or without humanity. Something else would just fill in the gap, if there is a gap. Nature will keep the balance whether we are around or not. We can't overcome something we are a part of.

Yeah. We do tend to leave a mess, take more than we need and we hurt each other, not to mention almost every other form of life we meet. We're not necessary in any way. We contibute some beauty to the earth, but we cause a lot of ugliness, and without us there world be no senseless killing. There would be no hate. Except for artists, we really aren't worth the trouble. That answer enough for you?

Absolutely not! We have created the best and the worse as human beings. We have sanctuaries for all sorts of animals to enjoy, we have active environmentalists trying to hold on to the beauty of this earth enjoyed by not only humans but animals. Spiritually, God created this earth to co-exist with animals, plant life and each other.

Well, we can't know that, now can we? ;)

I don't think we could call it a better place -- it would be a different place.

It would be an environmental, natural utopia. But who is to say that another life form would not become the master of THAT world?

It's all a question of fate, really. If we weren't here, then there would probably be some other imbalance. Perfection and peace seem to be ideologies only.

compared to dinosaurs? yeah. much better
people wouldn't be that bad if they would quit industrilizing, practicing medicine, and observing religion.
seriously though, mankind has transcended the Earth. it is an amazing phenominon that a life form has risen to a point higher than what he was risen from- man (theoretically) can leave this planet and successfully survive elsewhere. so to the folks answering that the earth would be better w/o man , i say perhaps you are putting the cart ahead of the horse
