Make the lessons fun. I once taught my students how to use sign language as another form of communication. They loved it, because not only were they learning something new, but I wasn't teaching them anything boring. They learned how to spell their names, how to say "cat", "fun" "teacher" "Love" "school" "dog", they learned the colors and the alphabet. It was easy because they already knew what the words meant, it was just really fun for them to learn it in a whole other "language"
Good luck

They love human tic tac toe...put a tic tac toe board on the floor using masking tape (or chalk outside) and divide the class into 2 teams. One member from each team is given a word to spell. If it is spelled correctly the child sits down in a square, if it isn't then they go to the back of their line (I line them up side by side on either side of the game board so everyone can be seen this cuts down on the fooling around) no one in line may talk as they tend to give the answers to each other...if they talk they lose a square to the other team. It is a fun way to practice spelling words. I always hold up the index card after they have spelled it correctly so they can also see it. This game targets all the learning styles. The kids love it. Good luck.

well i have a lot, you did not specify for what subject. Just go through online lessons that u like print them out thats what a lot of teachers do. you can tweak them the way you want, just make it fun. use food for math kids always like that, skittles, sweethearts, etc... let kids have a snack while your reading 2 them, to keep them focused on your reading if u are doing a read aloud, have them draw a picture and write somthing they like, i have done that in the 2nd, 3rd, and fourth grade. again there are a lot of good lesson plans on the net, i just tweak them 2 make them even better. Oh and i use my son as a guinea pig, if he likes them then I teach them. I always get the reaction geez we never get 2 do this kind of stuff in class. lol good luck

Hats off to you! I subbed second grade one day and whew! It's tough. You guys need aids!
The teacher i subbed for had quite a few dance breaks with the kids. They went to a certain area of the room and played the 'slide' song and did all the moves for it. What fun! Then there was reading time on the carpet.
she had a time schduled for 'labs' where the kids got out prepackaged activities, played with these educaitonal and devlopmental fun games in pairs or individually. Then there was cutting and pasting story sequences. Recess, naptime, then show and tell. Not a dull moment, and the kids looked forward to every activity.

There are many, many on-line sources for lesson plans, worksheets, and the like. It took me about five minutes to find several; all were free.
Do an on-line search for whatever topic you need help in. Just be certain that whatever you use fits in with your school system's curriculum for first through third grades.

bypass to the Responsive lecture room internet website. Order the e book, "the first Six weeks of school". in case you follow those lesson plans, you'll spend those first few weeks starting to be a cooperative and supportive studying community (and its truly interesting!) With a healthful, functioning crew, you may handle the curriculum in week 4 or 5. have interesting!
