The Chicagoan 750 N. Rush St
The Bernardin 747 N. Wabash Ave
The Seneca 200 E. Chestnut St
The Streeter 345 E. Ohio St
$2000 a month is only going to get you a one bedroom in Streeeterville, unless you want to buy a condo, but you would have to put down 20% to get mortgage payments around $2000

I'd suggest you check the sublets in the Chicago Reader rather than signing a full year contract. You'll never know what's going to work for you until you live there. Lots of issues don't come to mind in the Loop area until you've lived there and experienced them. Catching buses or taxis in the Gold Coast is almost impossible in bad weather. Where's your home vs your job? Some commutes are really wretched if you're going the wrong direction during rush hour. Will you have a car? If so, are you prepared for the costs of parking, the city sticker and the cost of insuring it in certain neighborhoods?
If you sublet for 4-6 months, then you're not stuck in a full year contract and can readjust as soon as you start figuring out how things work in the area. Personally, I want nothing to do with living downtown because I can't have friends come and go easily. Hit Bucktown and be closer to the real fun. Or hit the newly renovated areas near Greektown where things are fun, parking more plentiful, but costs far less expensive.

I can tell you to stay away from south of the river on Michigan if you want to walk out your door and be in the middle of "it". I made that mistake and learned that there is NOTHING after 5:00pm except for tourist attractions at Millenium Park. In ended up cabbing it whenever I wanted to go out. Stay North of the River and you will find tons of great places.

$2000 a month for RENT? You must be nuts. Go buy something for that kind of money. Crap, you are throwing away $24,000 A YEAR! If you have that much cash to burn, send some my way.
If I were you I would look to buy something. If you are coming here to college, why the HECK are you spending $2G's a month on RENT. I would look in the suburbs at least. If you insist on renting at least you get more for your money.

http://chicago.craigslist.org/ (check daily)
http://www.chicagotribune.com/classified/realestate/renting/ (you want chicago north area)
http://classifieds.suntimes.com/osform/MVCCService?osform_template=/chicago/branding/subcategories/RealEstateRentals.html
take in consideration parking....if the mile won't work for you, try near north area....still minutes from downtown and easy to get to by cab or public transportation.

Check the Chicago Reader website and look under "Apartments" and "Gold Coast/Streeterville"
(http://classifieds.chicagoreader.com/chicago/Results?sort=Random&subsection=oid%3A122&neighborhood=oid%3A223&zipCode=&zipCode=&zipCode=&bedrooms=Studio&bedrooms=1BR&bedrooms=2BR&rentMin=min&rentMax=max&searchPhrase=&submit=)
You can get apartments on the Gold Coast for that kind of money.
