I think it will grow on you. I remember thinking some of my friends were tools to have pagers. Then I got one. Then they had cell phones (Zack Morris style) and I laughed. I got one. I felt the same way about texting but hear me out. I text over a phone call. It's so much quicker. As a guy, if I want to answer or find out what's going on, I don't like to spend 5 minutes on the phone doing so. Instead, it's a quick way to get your message across. I think it will grow on you.

I Hate it!Things come out wrong, people misinterpret what you're saying.. plus its making people too lazy to call each other AND its bad for younger people as it with all its abbreviations, grammar and spelling are out the door!

The good thing about texting is it's quick. If I were to phone my 2 mates that I text or receive texts from most days, I'd never be off the phone from them. Also I don't always call my friends at night in case they are putting their little ones to bed, so it's quite practical for me. Also texts are a bit like a diary for me- I keep texts with meeting times for nights out (knowing me, I'd go to the wrong pub if I didn't have the name in my phone) I certainly couldn't manage without text messaging, but I know that it's not everyone's preferred method. If you don't like it that's fine, no soap-box required x

While texting is not the most popular of activities I could think of, what I DO hate is when people email me (or in the case of some of the questions on this forum) use text abbreviations!
WTF (pardon the vernacular!)? Can't people SPELL anymore or has the world become so lazy as to not be able to even spell out an entire word!!
Here's a contemporary example:

Thanks for letting me borrow your soapbox!

You may be the only limey that hates it, but on the other side of the pond where I'm at, I think it sucks a wet fart. Call and talk for crying out loud! It's bad enough no one writes a letter anymore. (And I'm guilty there. All I do anymore is e-mail.)
Text messaging stinks, and I think it's only a phone company plot to make more money.
PS: Sorry about the "limey" remark. Nothing personal.

NO. I hate it as well it is destroying the noble English language and makes a mockery of spelling, just look at some of the questions and answers on Yahoo answers I dread to think what children's spelling will be like in the future let alone the grammar

You might be the only one in Britain, and maybe I am the only on in the U.S. I hate it! All my friends love it and text all the time. I just call the person.
