I ask this question because there are people out there who don't want to do something great with their lives. They say it isn't a choice whether or not you want to, but it really is. Martin Luther King Jr. pursued after freeing the blacks from their white shackles. George Washington pursued after victory for America when it was almost dead. Becoming renown is a plus to doing something great in our world. Unfortunately, it is also a plus to doing great evil.

I was going to mention Abraham Lincoln, but at that moment couldn't decide what the difference would have been. Now I remember that Abraham Lincoln eliminated slavery while Martin Luther King Jr. worked to eliminate prejudice.

It is an ego trip for a lot of people to be able to say" Yes, many many people will remember me after I am gone", but there are some ways I wouldnt want to be remembered. You mention Martin Luther King, and I may get in trouble over this, but Mr King got murdered because of how he went about his way of doing things. And it wasnt he who freed the blacks, it was Abraham Lincoln. But then most people forget that.

People are here to survive and would like at least their family to remember them. Not everyone wants to be a Martin Luther king or a George Washington.

I've always believed that everyone has a purpose. Just because I haven't been able to really put myself out there in public protesting what I want done with this world doesn't mean that I haven't done anything else with my life. You wouldn't know that I go to a local bookstore at least once a week and read stories with kids that are there with their parents. You wouldn't know that I've given up on getting a car because I don't want to cause more pollution. You wouldn't know that where-ever I go, I pick up litter when I see it, open a door for anyone that comes my way, give money to the homeless whether or not they use it for booze. I try to live my life doing good deeds for the average Joe. I wish I had the power to do more but that's just not possible. Thanks for reminding me.

to be able to be remembered, you leave something behind. Cash is normally a good idea.
go to these sites and find out some ways to get the cash such as insurance policy, health plan etc.
That is what I would do but who cares.... why do you want to be remembered.... do you know the people that lived 50000 years ago? They were also intelligent! How about 50 years ago. We all die and all of our history gets erased in 1 mil. years by a factor of 100,000 mil to one or even less. just enjoy life and try to help others in the meantime.

There's always people who will remember you. You don't have to be famous to be remembered.
Throughout history a lot a famous people were not famous during their time period, and a lot of people haphazardly stumbled into it.
Neither Martin Luther King or George Washington were looking to become famous no matter how misconstrued your history book recounts them.

You have asked a question I have thought about a lot through out my life.
My answer is Yes, maybe not for as long as some people. But in the end I only want to be remembered by ONE Being. GOD!

We all enter into the Void within about 90 yrs.
The names we remember are not the people, they are merely a simplified memory of the person. Many famous people are remembered almost as caricatures nowdays, thanks to the modern media.
Did we ever really know the person fully when they were alive ?that is the necessity for us to be able to truely remember someone, and how many are able to stake a claim on that achievement???

I think anyone who finds an opportunity to achieve greatness would take it. Everyone has dreamed of fame, fortune, and great renown. But should that be the purpose of your life? Or, is it how you spend each day that defines the meaning and quality of your life?

Great question.. Many people just live their lives in order to satisfy their basic needs w/ out attempting to do something greater! If you cant do something good for humanity then you should at least try to do something good for yourself.. How sad when you see people that don't take advantage of the opportunities offered to them and chose a life of crime and poverty!

I have children so somebody will remember me for a while at least. But it isn't the big things that make the world go around, it's the little ones.
