If your going to the southern part of palawan you should start an anti malarial regimin prior to travel (about two weeks) most of the finer resorts are in the northern part so no worry there. Puerto princessa has a few things to see but not much, but the food is great in most places and I personaly have never had any problems with the food there. Palawan is a great place to snorkle and to dive. lots of great beaches that you will have to yourself or mostly so. the underground river is great. El nido resort is absolutely the best place to go its worth the cost and you will never be so pampered as you will be there.

Which part of Palawan are you visiting? I suggest you go to Northern Palawan, specifically, Coron. That's where the best beaches are, for me at least. There's the Kayangan Lake which is the best one in the Philippines. They also have great dive sites. They have Makinit hotsprings, as well. If you're going to those remote hilly areas, have a shot to avoid malaria. Enjoy!

Palawan, specially Puerto Princesa is a very safe place, and they speak good english. bring lots of sunblock for sure, Puerto princesa - you should go to the underground cave, go Island hopping, snorkling ( be sure you know how to swim) and check out their nice places to eat I forgot the place but its a restaurant where you'll have you're own hut with your own table to eat :-). palawan are used to tourists so you wont have any problem.

If you're planning on a romantic vacation try Dos palmas beach resort and go banana boating .

You're like I was before I went to the Philippines and Palawan, I kept asking people what to expect, if it was safe and where to go. Just bring your flip flops, plenty of sunblock and enjoy the resorts. The people there will spoil you, email me and I will send you some of my pics from my vacation there with my fiancee in Club Paradise. I just got back 2 weeks ago...

Check out Puerto Princesa and explore the underground river.
You can also get a copy of the latest Lonely Planet guide book. It gives a lot of other details that you might be interested it. (always just verify the info because data can change from time of print)
Have fun!

Make sure that you bring mosquito repellant and drink only bottled water from a reliable source! Enjoy your trip!

do visit this website www.tourism.gov.ph. it has all the travel information you will need. and lastly the usual warnings, dont flash your money, dont accept drinks from anyone as long as you order it, dont accept help from dubious persons. there are always information counters were you can ask for.
