Did Bush actually say anything?

I didn't think so either.

Yawn.

My lasting impression is that Bush listened to smart people who wrote his speech by opening with a gracious nod to the new Speaker of the House and to close by focusing on individual heroic Americans. Speech writers attempted to bury the bad stuff about Iraq and also a bizarre new health plan that taxes the middle class to pay for coverage for the wealthy. That plan didn't succeed totally but Bush's acceptance of global warming and fuel conservation were good softeners.

The most vivid impression of the evening were Senator James Webb's powerful closing words: "We hope to begin working with him (the President) to move our country in a new direction. If he does, we will join him. If he does not, we will be showing him the way."

I only watched the address, didn't hear anything afterward. In fact, I read it on closed caption...I highly recommend it if you have a tough time listeneing to the president. I thought he addressed many issues, and didn't sugar coat them, like he has in the past and like I was expecting him to do again. I thought he was very honest and forthcoming in his speech. It is evident that he is trying bi partisanship (also something he has not done in the past) and is finally addressing some issues at home, instead of everything being about Iraq. He answered many questions I had, and was a humble man in front of a tough crowd. I respect him for the first time in a very long time, and will have an open mind about his plans, although i won't forget what he said, and will look to see if it happens, same as the dem congress. I will not ever listen to what the pundits or anyone else's take is on this, as I trust myself to make up my own mind. All in all, lasting impression is the man has restored some humanity in himself, has dropped the arrogance, and appears to be representing the people at this point.

My lasting impression is the president of the United States is clearly out of touch with the reality of the state of the union, even more so than before. Its sad for us.

I think it is more of the same from George Bush, he just don't seem to get it or he is doing stuff on purpose for his own personal gain. Either way look forward to next years speech because it will be his last.

That Bush was a scared, lying, useless idiot, who would have rather been anyplace but there. He knew that practically everyone there cannot stand him, and were watching for anything that he said that would make a fool of him--again.

I just caught bits and piece of the speech----but, he was so pathetic, I had to laugh. But, didn't want to waste my time on a liar.

Nancy Pelosi flirting with him. You do jest. She looked bored to death..couldn't wait for it to be over.

Lot's of empty words and lots of fear based language when it comes to Iraq. BTW, I don't listen to the pundits. But I did listen to Jim Webb. He'd be a great president.

I was not disappointed since I had no expectations. I did not really think anyone of any party would actually get up and tell the real state of the union.

I think the President should start listening to the people around him or he is going to take a tremendous hit if things do not improve.

More lies and pretty words to rally his supporters. I dont believe anything he says at this point and probably never will.
