We hate in others what we hate in ourselves.

I've known quite a few miserable people, and the worst torture for them is waking up and having to be a slave to their own personality for yet another day. Can you imagine living with an individual that's miserable. Now could you imagine living in a body of a person that's miserable. The only thing an unhappy, obnoxious person has to look forward to is making other people as miserable as them and death, which will cure their character flaws.

I am an obnoxious person. I am not miserable. On the contrary, I am spared the company of arrogant boors who would invade my life, tell me what to do, how to do it, and would attempt to change me, as I drive them away in moments. This allows me to cultivate those friendships I value. My friends accept me as I am, and attibute my obnoxious attitude to an ironic sense of humour. I am obnoxious by choice. I have not been traumatized. I do not particularly value the opinions others may have aboout me, because I am content with myself. Now, leave me alone. I am going to play with my grandchildren.

I believe they are very miserable, and can't stand to see others happy. They then make it their own personal vendetta to set out to make everyone around them as miserable as they are. You can try to help them, but they usually respond with even more hatefullness. Best to stay clear of such negative people.

There is LOTS of validity here! When people feel crappy about themselves, instead of doing something to improve, they go out and make others feel crappy! This, in turn, makes them feel better (because they have nothing else)

I say people make others miserable need a way to boost up their own egos. They lower others so they can rise above others.

how bout "misery loves company". could just be a way to validate feeling crappy. it can be easier to be unhappy than try to find happiness. people like to live in the "status quo". and those that don't, don't they always seem happy. "laugh and the whole world laughs with you". or something like that. maybe we just need to spread more smiles around.

Not only is it true, but the fact that they continue to be cranky shows that they have chosen to be miserable. Go to bed mad some night, and you'll know what they experience.

I think so...I understand what you're talking about and yes it's very sad until they insult you and then it just angers you, but I personally try not to let it get to me when a girl calls me a slut or a whore, because they don't know me they don't know who I really am and they say that because well, I'm not really sure because they think saying that is going to hurt my feelings or something, but I don't let it get to me because I know it's not true.

Potentially. As with all generalizations there are exceptions.
