He is afraid he may have to actually release his military records this time and we can all see the real reason he got his early out from the Navy.

Kerry has seen the writing on the wall -- that hardly anyone will support him this time around. I live in Massachusetts, and the attitude even among party members is, "Well, if Kerry runs, we have to support him, but let's hope he doesn't."

In the polls, he is running even or below the second-tier candidates like Tom Vilsack and Dennis Kucinich. Those two second-tier candidates can claim they have poor name recognition, and therefore can rise in the polls with additional time. Kerry's name is known to just about everyone -- so his poor poll numbers reflect a poor opinion of him.

It is widely believed -- and I share this belief -- that Kerry blew it in 2004. He ran a lousy campaign: he ignored the grassroots activists; appeared wishy-washy even to his supporters; and declined to respond to the Swiftboat attack until it was too late. Each one of those was enough to lose the election -- and he made a conscious decision on each one. I have seen little evidence he would do any better in 2008 in his attitude towards the grassroots and about flip-flopping.

He HAS actually responded to the Swift-boaters now -- see the "Vietnam" section in the link below. I was looking forward to a fair fight on that issue, because I think Kerry COULD have saved himself if he had not dismissed that attack in 2004.

I held my nose and voted for Kerry in 2004 (I was a Dean supporter in the primaries). I voted against Kerry, however, in his Senate race in 2002 -- I voted instead for a protest candidate who highlighted Kerry's pro-war vote in Sept. 2002. Many of us in the anti-war movement will never forgive Kerry for his war vote -- myself included -- and will not support him either for President or Senate ever again. Kerry COULD have been the strongest opponent of the war, saying something like, "I led the anti-Vietnam-war movement, and now I'll lead the anti-Iraq-war movement." Had he done that, I thnk he would be president now. Instead, he's out of the running, and I hope for good.

if John boy were in, he'd split the vote with Hillary in the primary.. causing them both to lose most likely causing a weaker third candidate to get the bid.. and Hillary has a better chance of taking the bid than he does anyway.. so rather than hurt the party by risking a lesser candidate he's stepping aside ..

that's my take.. he could just not want to mess with it :)

He probably realized he had no shot. Edwards, Obama, and Clinton are all more popular. He ran against a weak Dem field the last time around.

He's a loser.

Too bad. His presence would have provided comic relief.

It's already a crowded field, and besides, he doesn't have a snow balls chance in h-ell of winning anyway.
