Ben washes dishes at a rate of 250 dish/hr (500/2)
and Frank washes dishes at a rate of 150 dish/hr (450/3)

Their combined rate is 250 + 140 = 400 dishes/hr

1000/400 = 2.5 hours.

It takes 2 and a half hours. To get the answer you take 500 divided by 2. This will give you how many dishes Ben does in an hour. Your do the same to Frank. Ben can wash 250 dishes and Frank 125. Add them together to get 400. Then take 1000 and dived it by 400 to get 2.5.

Ben washes 250 dishes per hour while frank washes 150, so therefore it would take them 2 and a half hours together to wash 1000.

It would normally take 2.5 hours, but Ben has to go to the doctor in an hour. So, Frank will have to step up and wash more dishes or hire an illegal immigrant for $5 to pick up the slack.

Ben takes 1 hr to wash 250
Frank takes 1 hr to wash 150

So between them in an hour they wash 400

So to wash 1000 would take 2.5 hrs.
