Your funny since the start of this administration millions have had to live on minimum wage. The businesses wont pay them anymore than that. CEO's got a 400% raise and minimum wage wasn't ever increased ever by a Republican. It's been 10 years and Bill Clinton did it when he first got into office in the early 90's....Neocons should be ashamed of themselves..

Since government is run by big business; you don't think that they are ever going to pass a bill that pays a living wage do you? No, they expect those who don't have money to sub-exist or work 2/3 jobs! $7.25 an hour is a joke! They pass those raises so that they can tell us "Look what we have done for you". What the raise will do is cut a lot of jobs from small businesses that say they can't afford to pay higher wages. However, I'll bet it won't cut into their profit line. Perhaps if you can't pay a living wage to your workers; you don't belong in business.

Minimum wage is what the government determines is the lowest amount of income a person can live off of. It's laughable to conceive of someone making $5.15 - $7.25 / hour to live off of, but that's what they determine. Most people making those wages are high school / college students, but there are some adults as well.

If business could pay what they wanted, they could practically turn American workers into slaves, because they would pay as little as possible.

Sorry but you are mistaken. When minimum wage controls first went into effect it was set for the minimum that a person could live on. One person. Now with wage increases to compete with the minimum wage gone out of sight, that can not be said.

minimum wage is to insure employers pay a specified minimum wage...supposedly to counter greedy employers who would pay as little as possible and use the applicants "need/desperation" for a job against them.
It does hurt business as they are not able to hire as many employees especially over time...
A starter salary that gets normal increases/promotions can over time eliminate a new hire.
I feel the government has FORGOTTEN that employers regardless of their success/profits are entitled to their success.
Government wants to legislate charity..aka force companies to give back profits so that the GOV can fund their "projects".
This is not nor ever was the American Dream.
The danger is simple...why would anyone want to create a very profitable business or use years of their life learning to be a physician, scientist, computer etc only to find that their wages are deemed too high and must be returned to uncle sam ...Congress will continue to throw their "pet" contracts to preferred vendors, build bridges/projects ,fund the ACLU,art projects public radio and try to socialize services such as health care
SO YES it is a bad decision...but people always want something for nothing and politicians always look for ways to secure votes...

I don't think having a minimum wage is about anything but a way for politicians to buy votes with someone else's money.

I think politicians are well aware that minimum wages are posion to the ecnomy and thats why they are careful to administer a less than lethal dose.

You are correct on one point--the minimum wage exists--and is periodically raised to keep up with inflation--to prevent abuse by unethical employers.

However, you are incorrect in saying it will "hurt"business, small or othrwise. That myth is trotted out by those same unethical businessmen every time the minimum wage is raised. There is no evidence to back it up and never has been.

A bit of advice--if you go around repeating such myths, you will end up getting areputation as greedy and unethical yourself--because in most people'sexperience, thats's a fair decription of those who perpetuate myths like that.

Its like me I am disabled, and I paid taxes for many years but they give me $635.00 a month to live on.the smallest amount they can.I have about 150.00 a month to live on after I pay for this room.
But sometimes.every week or so, the pain is not so bad and I go out and paint a few address numbers on curbs and then I can have two meals a day and not just one.Great!
But I praise God all the time.I really do.

I think the minimum wage concept is outdated.

The market should decide.

If you want more pay, get more skills.

When the minimum is set over the market standard, people get laid off, not raises. The law does NOT prevent that, nor should it.

What does it matter, when the illegal immigrants undercut any wage laws anyway?
