I'm trying to install Panda Internet Security Suite 2007 on my BF's computer. (WIN 98...can you believe it?!) He used the "Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs" to remove AVG 7.1. Supposedly, this worked, but when he tried to install Panda, it still detected the AVG, and asked for it to be removed. I've gone into the folders on 'C' individually, found a few more AVG files, and have deleted them. When I do a search, using both "avg" and "grisoft" (the software company), nothing else is found on the hard drive....yet Panda still won't install, claiming that AVG is still in conflict. The AVG website offers no help. Panda either. HELP!!! Any suggestions?

It sounds like your registry needs to be edited and AVG needs to be removed from there. Try this free online computer repair site and let them remote into your system and completely remove AVG for you if you wish, but I would stick with the AVG because in my opinion, it's better than Panda but that is up to you.

Uninstall AVG. (attempt utilising the uninstall by upload/get rid of courses) seek for and delete all folders and data that AVG created.some may well be undeletable at this component, as they have been lockedduring boot. Reboot, and run a registry cleanser. in case you're utilising a instruction manual one, study the educational and help intently first. the computerized ones will detect a load of ineffective stuff unrelated to AVG - this is alright to scrub that out, too. Reboot, pass to command line and run regedit. In regedit, seek for avg*, and delete all references which you detect. purely delete the keys that start up with avg, do no longer difficulty with the different keys which would be linked with those. maximum of them would be interior the utility element of the registry. do no longer delete something, no matter how tempting Reboot. you ought to now be waiting to delete all last data and folders created by ability of AVG set up. Reboot, and run the registry cleanser returned. you ought to now have a clean device, or as clean because of the fact the registry cleanser could make it. Reboot, and reinstall utilising yet another acquire of AVG

I know of some excellent computer forums and I will list them here for you. Any of these forums can help to find the answer. This question is outside my expertise but I have seen many like it at the other forums and they were all answered to the satisfaction of the questioner.

As you will notice I have rated the sites. The first one is really good about explaining info to new computer users in language that they can understand. The second is pretty good but is more for an advanced beginner to intermediate user and the last site is for intermediate to advanced users.

If you install it again then try to un-install it should be able to remove it then. I think that since you have deleted some files manually you may have deleted a file it needs to uninstall itself.
