last night my 9 year old step daughter was really giving me a hard time and she told her brother to start acting up. I sent her to her room. Later I told their father and told him how I handled it. That was all that was done. Do you think he should have stepped in on that or should he just accept my discipline and let it be?

If you announced to their father the way you handled it, I don't know what you expected to happen. I get the impression that you handled it and told him you handled it. If you expected anything more, next time ask him to "add" to your discipline.

Younger kids are gonna have a harder time accepting a blended family than children who were born into it. I have 8 brothers and sisters, most that are "step." Now when both my parents were remarried, all of us acted up and acted out. It's hard and confusing to them because their family isn't like it used to be. My parents have been remarried now for almost nine years and I still have a hard time a lot of times.

The way that you and your husband are handling things could be a problem in the future if you both don't talk about discipline with the children. Talking about the problem and the way it was handled was a great start but he needs to voice his opinion on whether he agrees or disagrees. Being on the same page when it comes to this stuff is really cruicial with blended families then that of "normal" families.

i imagine she’s being immature and infantile and he or she's in all probability a touch jealous. yet she has something of an excuse--she’s 19. You and your husband, on the different hand, at the prompt are not 19 and want to manage this with a lot more suitable adulthood that it is been dealt with. You husband shouldn’t have ever informed her 'his spouse is variety one'. a minimum of he must have reported that you've been both both substantial. And any ascertain who would 'wash thier fingers of their toddler' purely because they’re being perplexing, needs some classes in what it ability to be a ascertain. I propose you all 3 strengthen up and learn that it’s no longer all about *you*.

I don't believe you need to receive 'Kudos' from your husband after disciplining your children! You handled the problem and that is the end of it! Having a step child is a difficult job but it is something you excepted the day you got married. I have two step children, if that's what you want to call them, I don't, and it was a battle at first but eventually things calmed down. That was over 20 years ago and now, I am just MOM!
Sounds to me like your going through what I used to refer to as the 'Oh, God, I think I'm picking a fight with my husbands children' syndrome! Stop thinking of them as 'His' kids and start thinking of them as 'Our' kids and things will go much smoother!
Kids act up weather they are yours or his! They want to test your love capacity and will push every button they can find to test you! It isn't because they aren't excepting 'YOU' it's because they think 'You' are not excepting them! If you are feeling overwhelmed by the two against one thing going on, sit down and talk to your husband and ask him how he deals with the kids when they misbehave!
He obviously had no problems with your choice of punishment, so don't force him to feel as if he has to choose between you or them when it comes to battles! You are the adult and it is up to you how smooth or rocky things will go! Don't allow yourself to search and destroy! Most parents just sit back and let life happen! Should a child get out of hand, weather it be yours, his, theirs or mine, they need to be disiplined. Don't allow your self to look at it as if they are against you because you are the Step-parent! It may very well be an issue with them, but you have to ignore it and treat them like any other child who misbehaves. Sounds easy, doesn't it, well it's NOT! Believe, me! But, you can do it! If I can do it, anyone can do it! Between the four of them I didn't think I would ever live long enough to see my grandchildren. Wanted to toss myself off a cliff more often than not, let me tell you! lol But What I'm telling you REALLY DOES WORK!
Good Luck Little One, I will keep you in my thoughts and pass on some mental strength. lol

Blessed Be

he should see what happens, if your disciple is not working he should step in and make sure that they know that you are in charge.
