Send out demos to anyone and everyone. It might take a while and a good amount of money, but if you have talent, you might make that money back. If you do get signed to a label, hire an attorney to look over the contract, don't have just anyone do it. An attorney will understand the language and be able to tell you what exactly you are signing. You should try the Nashville area, it's not just country music. Also try LA, New york, and Dallas.
Good luck

Get onto MySpace so your fans know where you are. Get a big following by gigging and giving away the music online. Then the record companies will find you.
It worked for the Arctic Monkeys.
