About 20 average sized songs... not much.
These are on clearance all over the place for aroun$20-$30. Best bet is to buy a much larger mp3 player, like a 1G (~160 songs) for only a little more than twice the price of the 128.

Good luck.

On average a decent quality MP3 is about 3-5 MB. Generally a 128 MB player should hold about two album's worth, depending on MP3 quality.

You can get a 128MB player for under $20 or even less. You can 1GB for under $40.

Please note the encoding parameters of your MP3 collection. The sampling frequency and bit rate dramatically influence the size of your files, hence affect the number of songs you'll store. The popular format of 44KHz/128kbs is (very, very roughly) translated into 1 minute per1MB (I emphasize that's very approximate). The encoding software you use will also play a role.

Taking the above number as a yardstick, you can check your files and scale the expected time up or down.
