Seems like every time I debate a Lib and the issue of unemployment comes up, he or she insists that the unemployment rate doesn't count people who have been unemployed for over a year because their benefits have run out. The BLS website explains quite clearly how unemployment is tallied and it has nothing to do with benefits. If you're out of work, ready to work and looking for work, you count as unemployed, even if you've been unemployed for eight years, regardless of whether you qualify or ever qualified for benefits - it has nothing to do with benefits.

I explain this to these Libs and they insist that the BLS is lying because it's "part of the Bush administration." The BLS is part of the Census Bureau - if you're not going to believe them, what will you believe? Do they think the National Weather Service is lying about the barometric pressure at Logan Airport?

Libs seem to favor higher unemployment--- hence Wel-fare and higher taxes for people that make money--- Liberals dont lie that often-- its the higher liberals that lie to the lower ones and then the lower ones repeat it back and forth and sometimes get confused with each others lies-... kinda funny

"If you're out of work, ready to work and looking for work, you count as unemployed"

Ask yourself...how is this statistic determined. Does the government just call around and check once a month? No, its determined by applications for unemployment insurance.

So...your friends are right in how its determined and you are right that it does not matter if they are receiving benefits. No matter what your politics, always be wary of statistics...they can be made to say whatever the person wants to have supported.

Another "fact" that was uttered just last night was that a majority of the military opposes the war. Did you catch the way that quack slipped that in his response? Is there evidence to support this, or are the libs using a sliver of people who appeared on CNN and other who exhaustively search for these guys as their conclusion?

And after they make up facts to convince people that our country is in such an aweful state, you never hear what they plan to do to make it any better.

How does the government know who is unemployed if they don't and can't register as unemployed? Why do the numbers released match the number of applicants for benefits? Why is your head so far up your azz that you have to loosen your belt to brush your teeth?

It IS true that people who are not getting benefits are NOT counted as unemployed.

lots of people make up their own facts, it isn't a lib or conservative thing, it's an ignorance thing.

but it seems what you really want to talk about is unemployment, care to elaborate?

Unemployment is extremely low right now, and the best response they can come up with that not every person is counted. Funny - they counted the same way during the Clinton years, but somehow, that was "different"....

it does not count people that are no longer actively looking for work, people that are employable but have given up on the job search, you are misrepresenting the facts
