How expensive is the maintanance and repairs? Also, can't you just service it and do repairs at a really good mechanic or garage, instead of the dealership?

I don't have a 3 series but I have an x5 the 4.4 version and it is not anymore maintaining wise than any other car. And most definitely you can bring the car to a shop you trust instead of the dealer. The dealer is the most EXPENSIVE place to go.

just to give you an example I had a head light out went to the dealer and it cost me 47 dollars..... when I told my bf he wanted to choke me and said he could have done it for me at maybe 15 dollars, the cost of the bulb!

The newer 3 series now come with some scheduled maintainence included, so you don't even need to worry about the costs for a few years, at least until the warranty expires. You can call a dealer with the VIN and they can confirm the in-service date.

For an older 3 series, I have found the costs to be quite reasonable. I have the work done at a garage that specializes in BMWs, I recommend people do the same. What I would definitely NOT recommend it taking it to a garage that works on domestic or japanese cars. Dealers can be good or bad. I do also recommend joining the BMW Car Club of America, you get discounts on parts. Keep in mind that while taking your car to a third party while the car is under warranty will not void it, it makes it a pain if something related to the service goes wrong.

BMWs tend to be built with a high degree of uniformity, so what goes wrong in one car typically goes wrong in all of them. I have found that every issue I have had with the car was already documented, and easily and predictably repaired. Check out the BMW forums on roadfly for common issues, costs, etc.

First of all, the new 3 series start off at about 31,000, and depending on the model and the options you want, they can work themselves up to the mid forties. They are really reliable cars and the maintanance is good. Normally with the car, you get like 36,000 miles or 4 years... so they take care of almost everything for a good amount of time. They dont give a lot of problems and repairing things are at reasonable prices. They are nice cars to own.

I have owned a few BMW's in my time. In my experience, they are no more expensive to maintain than a Honda....no lie. I found many BMW parts to be CHEAPER than Honda parts. Example, E36 M3 water pump = $50. Honda pump was over $200.

As far as routine maintenance, you have oil changes and brakes, etc. Those costs are about the same for any car.

Yes, you can take it to an independent shop! The dealership is usually the MOST expensive place to go. Typically, they mark up parts price a LOT and the labor rate as well. Just ask your local BMW Car Club Chapter (search bmwcca.org for your local) and email them and get some recommendations for good shops!

The prices for BMW 3 series starts $28.000 and up. You have a Warranty by the new cars almost 3 years. You can extend that. The repair and parts are very expensive.

i trust you are able to opt to look at this downside from a huge standpoint. I presently offered a clean 3 sequence and haven't any courtroom circumstances in any appreciate about it. and that i understand many persons who own BMW 3 sequence automobiles and haven't any problems with them both. the reality is that no automobile is sweet. you are able to be fortunate adequate to purchase one and genuinely no longer have any issues in any appreciate with it for see you later as you own it. yet they're machines, and after a on an identical time as you'll have one situation with them or yet another. i trust it relies upon upon a volume of different concerns, too. Many persons who own BMWs like to trust of them as 'performance' automobiles, they frequently race the automobiles and stress them not basic. As a lot because the three sequence is a staunch performer, its also a youthful piece of engineering. in case you manage the automobile not basic then its going to choose more effective upkeep faster. uncomplicated upkeep on a clean BMW expenses no longer something thinking that the generating unit coverage covers such lots concerns. some persons also lots of the time placed low grade gas interior the automobile to economize, or maybe as the engine receives twisted up they *****. yet another element to do no longer forget is that each body luxury automobiles frequently contain a a good number of fancy electronics and gadgetry, and a number of those concerns are regularly the established to flow---in spite of the undeniable fact that, once more effective, they're blanketed by potential of way of the generating unit coverage. Its extremely now no longer an significant deal. All you are able to opt to do is stress the automobile to the dealership (or they're going to tow it in), and on an identical time as they're fixing it they grant you a loaner. What you may want to might want to opt to be in touch about is using the automobile after it is going off coverage, and till you purchase an more effective coverage from the organization then all the costs will be out of pocket. it really is on the prompt no longer maximum effective of BMW, yet besides of Mercedes, Lexus and all the others.
