Without stereotypes, people would be forced to get to know people that they would not otherwise. For example, as young as school age, kids model their parent's behaviors. A child comes from a home in which a certain race or religion is not liked and that child will, much more often than not, automatically "remove" those types of kids from his or her "friend search." This happens from a very early age. It then tends to be defied in the early teen years, as a way of going against all things parental, but then picks back up again as people age into their early 20s. It affects most people for most of their lives.
If stereotypes were not made available, these kids would have only neutral information to make their assumptions on and base their "friend searches" on.
On a lighter note, it would work the heck of the police and special task forces. They could no longer discount the scores of thousands of 72 year old elderly white females that are in their databases with vehicular incident fingerprinting as being linked to a bank robbery!
My opinion, the stereotypes will never go away. Our world needs them. It is all we have ever known and we have come to depend on them as our rule of how to approach life. They exist across all cultures in religions and can be found on every continent.
In the end, the best purpose they serve is setting a standard for all those inspired individuals that set out to disprove them (and succeed)!
Take Care.

For me, it would probably be a good bit easier. See...I'm blonde and you can only imagine the grief I get sometimes. I am actually a more serious blonde but I do have my "blonde moments" at times. So many people I've encountered...even ones in my own family, have preconceived notions about me and speak to me in condescending tones...especially like when I'm new on a job. I get all sorts of attitude from people. Usually after time, some people realize that I'm not such a ditz...but some refuse to give me a chance. Life would be better if there weren't any preconceived ideas about people, i.e. "stereotypes". Guess we'll never know what that's like, huh ? Oh, well...

It's not possible. Where would we draw the line between fact and stereotype?... now a world without ignorance? ~ that would be bliss.

i think that it would be a better place. The worst is classes people who are in a lower class don't get the same respect as others. even though they are people to. We need to learn to live without judging people.
