We separated in 2000, and i immediately took him to court, and was granted child support. He never made 1 payment, so I went to Child Support Enforcement, provided all the necessary paperwork and waited...and waited...and waited. Then I get a letter saying that because he doesn't work for an actual company (he freelances as a carpenter) they can't garnish his wages, since basically they can't find where he works. He has a beautiful home, 2 nice cars, and even a 2 bedroom boat, but because everything is in his girlfriends name, they say there's nothing they can do. I wish I could afford to hire a laywer, but that's really not an option, so if anyone can offer advice, I would appreciate it!

you might try legal aid. (they provide free legal assistance to low income families) have you also considered contacting the irs?
they would have a record if he was paying taxes. if he's not, report his @ss for being self-employed and not paying taxes. If he is paying in to his taxes---guess who could end up with his tax refund? YOU!
in some states there is also a # that you can call on certain evenings and talk to an attorney free of charge. (search on line for free legal help.)

My ex owes over $25,000 and that's for less than 2 years. He works as a waiter (minimum wage), even though he has a psychology degree.
These guys are the worst. Call up the Ombudsman at the child support office. They are paid to work for you with/against the district attorney child support division. They will know more.

Wish I could help. Good luck.

Call the police or your local prosecuting attorney's office. What he is doing is illegal. You may be able to have him arrested, and it won't cost you a thing. If that doesn't straighten him up, then there is probably nothing you can do about it. Sorry. Good luck!

P.S. I am linking below to a website that has some information. I can neither confirm nor deny the accuracy of the website, but it looked promising! There may be other websites that can help as well. I'd start with the police or prosecutor, though.
