It's a little bit of a dump but is improving and is way better than even ten years ago. Fenway has so much character and of course it is very old. I consider it a much more exciting experience than most of the MLB parks which are very generic and have no spirit in them.
The smell is more of a combination of urine, beer, sausages, and the sweet scent of grass and dirt.
Your experience will depend on three major factors: the game, the weather, and your seats. (I also suggest drinking many of the over-priced beers as well)

Fenway isn't a total dump. The charms of it are that it's old and you're really close to the action. The bowels under the stands can smell like urine, but the new ownership has really cleaned the place up. As for a clear view of the field...stay clear of the RF grandstands. Also, i hope you're not tall. The grandstand seats are by far the smallest in all of baseball. If you're over 5'8", expect your knees to be up against the chair in front of you. But it's a great time at that park. Have fun singing sweet caroline in the middle of the 8th!

I was just there at a game in the Fall and I found it really cool. I didn't notice a smell and really enjoyed it. I cannot wait to go back to a game this year. AND, if you like beer, the Boston Beer Works is right across the street from Fenway. Have Fun!

Fenway isn't a dump. It also isn't one of the newer stadiums. So I guess it depends what you are used to and what you're looking for. Fenway has old charm you'll get from no other stadium, and no it doesn't smell.
Redsox.com will give you a seating chart. If your ticket doesn't say obstructed view, you'll be fine.

It does smell "old" and is still a bit run down despite numerous renovations by the new owners. Do not buy tickets in Sections 1 thru 4 (Right Field) as they face out towards left field, not home plate. Good luck finding good tickets at a reasonable price!

i does no longer park contained in the city, except you recognize the area and are thoroughly adverse to public transportation. I went right into some video games very last 3 hundred and sixty 5 days, and that i'm all about taking the T. What i might want to do is, bypass to the "Braintree" T station (pay $5 to park) and take the pink Line to "Park street" the position you turn over to the golf eco-friendly Line. Take that to "Kenmore." everybody ought to placed $4 on a Charlie Card, which will cover the experience inbound and outbound. it is going to ward off the effort of searching parking intown. income from the game

no it doesnt smell like urine, maybe in the bathroom it does. Nevertheless, it is one of the oldest parks left in baseball. It is a classic baseball venue. An absolute blast for any baseball fan!
