why is my laptop keep on shutting down on me whenever i try to use the hdd for less than 5 minutes?

Either your hard drive is bad, or it could be your CPU overheading. I had this problem on a desktop, and replaced the fan and all works fine.
Not sure about your laptop, but also could be the problem is airflow underneath the computer, trying putting something at each corner to allow better airflow.
If you are running on battery alone, that could be the problem too.
