As a personal trainer I can only give you training advice. As far as how long you should wait before you start your exercise program is a question you should be asking your doctor. Depending on what is wrong with your shoulder, without medical advice, giving you exercise recommendations can further your shoulder injury. Once a doctor has cleared you for any exercise program and list what restrictions, then a personal trainer can give you advice.

careful.. i got in a car accident in february of last year (car rear ended me at stop light!), and i had to go to a chiropractor for 3 months because my neck and right shoulder hurt a lot. and when i tried to do light exercise like jogging or walking, it would exacerbate the pain, and give me horrible headaches. u really should see a doctor...the prescribed me muscle relaxants, but there really was no "cure" to get rid of the headaches except rest and allowing the muscles to heal. even now i am not the same, but after 3-5 months of rest and not exercising (i gained weight, but the fat kind, not muscle), my neck and shoulders are better..still get really tense tho.... good luck

Sorry about your accident but I think it's good that you wanna restart your sessions....before you start again do small exercises to make sure you can still do them...lift small pound weights, walk around the block a few times and do some exercises that you did in your sessions but not to much....and when you feel like your ready to start again then join back in....

just rest for a couple of days and then go back, but start slowly. and if it hurts (other than working the muscle like it should) then stop or lower the weight. as long as u are maintaining ur mass then ur not doing any harm to ur routine or progress

I'd go to see a doctor and get that shoulder checked out. If you start up before you are cleared you can permanently damage your shoulder and need rotator cuff surgery.

pop into the gym or to your G.P. and they will be able to tell you if its soft tissue damage it can be anything upto 72 days (i sprained my ankle in turkey over a year ago and it still plays up sometimes)
