Yeah, I've read it. I saw the movie as well. I liked the book better. A lot of people are drawing similarities to today's government; what with the war and all being like the fake war in the book, the homeland security phoneline and email taps being like "Big Brother Watching", etc. etc.. Pretty thought provoking stuff. If you liked that book, you should try Clockwork Orange.

I read 1984 and i found it fabulous. I also saw the movie which was very good also. I guess the thing that is missing from the show is that mental torture they were exposed at in the book..and the Big Brother posters that were watching you even in the streets....

I read it several times back in my school days,it was one of those things you just did if you were a young aspiring long haired counter-culture type. Although dated in many ways even way back then & (I agree) depressing, the central message still holds true.

Yes. While some of the "they can see everything, everytime" stuff was a little much, the general concept of being able to make people "want" to conform was very much on the money.

Dragon has read it. It is unusual and intriguing. Dragon isn't sure if she super-liked it, but she definitely didn't hate it.
