Does any one find resemblance to the characters in these stories.
There's a chuunin exam and triwizard tournament in which orochimaru and the dark lord resurface.Then there is the likeness of the villains to the snake.
Or is it just a coincidence?

It must be a coincidence because if one of them was truly copying the other there would be a big copyright infringement and lawsuits that would be all over the news.

They resemble each other, but so do most hero stories. I wouldn't call it a coincidence, because you need the trials, a loveable hero who is also an unlikely hero, and alot of times in literature the snake is always a villian. I think you've made a real good observation. I'll look for it more the next time I watch Naruto, because I didn't notice it before. . . But that is because it is on the brain draining medium called Cable TV.

Coincidence, pure and simple. The two series were started at different times. Both series can be used to find parallels in other types of anime and movies.
