There are several species of vernal pool fairy shrimp living in California. They will probably lose their last habitat pools to development some time in the next few years. Alas.

All those living fossils who believe that capital punishment is, in any circumstance, justified. The fossils who believe that the Iraq "war" is "winnable". The fossils who believe that "sending them (whoever "they" are) back where they belong (including the "thems" born and raised in this country) will answer most, if not all, of this country's problems. I have empathy for them because they are human, and so I have a distant fellow feeling for them. But they are so primitive. It makes me thankful that so many humans have reached a higher stage of development.

I am a living fossil but no one empathises with me.
But if I had to choose it would be the Horseshoe crab; tough shell but very vulnerable nonetheless.(Oh and I don't have blue blood)
