Not sure exactly what you are refering to as this relates to immigration but I will say, that parents are apparently in a huge dilemma in this country (USA) because the law really limits what you can do to control your children, certainly in public. The outcome is children that misbehave radically and cause huge problems for the rest of us. Well, maybe no huge but ...? I chose not to have children because I saw this and other misfortunes coming in this regard a long, long time ago. I was so accurate that I have scared myself. I'm afraid to go against my own best judgement. It's bee correct too often! Children need to behave and the parents need to control them or try to. Anything less should be against the law. The child and the parent should be exited from aircraft or whatever. Sometimes the only thing kids understand is a guy/gal in a cop uniform comin over and telling them to stop their crazyness. Sad but true. Not want to get into name calling but this seems to be a problem sponsored by our LIberal type folks. Along with Illegal Immigration. I constantly have to ask myself how these people deal with their own stuff. Sheeeeesh!

All I have to say is... First they don't want you to punish your children, and now if you punish your children you'll get thrown in jail which PROBABLY punishes the child a hell of a lot more than an a** beating will.

It's funny that humans are so weak to physical abuse when a mass majority of the time it's the psychological that effects you in the long run.

HAHA! Isn't standing your child in a corner physical abuse these days too? RETARDS!

Airlines can throw you off for whatever reason. They are a private institution, not a public.

I yelled at my kid (not excessively) and it got turned into a charge of "neglect." There really is no safe corner anymore when it comes to standing up to a kid, never mind disciplining him/her. My husband saved the life of my son when he was two years old because he swatted his butt when he started running out into a busy road.

To be a parent is almost criminal now. If you discipline your kids in any way(standing in a corner is "degrading") You can find yourself in huge trouble for abuse; if you don't discipline your kids you can get stuck with a neglect charge and get into about as much trouble. Where I live, CPS now owns the life of most parents. Most families complain that they are getting bothered by them, and about the stupidest of things!

I'm not sure why this needs to be legislated-but when people allowed seat belt laws, a lot was opened up. On the other hand, I would wear my seat belt anyway and don't believe kids need to be spanked-I love it when people tell their kids to stop crying and spank them! There are plenty of ways to discipline besides spanking-especially those under three-what kind of parent needs to spank a toddler? I know it's time consuming to institute time-outs but...

According the story, it was not that the parents wanted to discipline their child, but that they wanted to comfort the child and the mom wanted to sit the child in their lap on take off. The stewardesses would not let the parents sit the child in their laps during takeoff, so they kicked them off the plane. I think the airlines were more at fault then the parents, but I can see it from their point as a safety issue.

spanking is punishment, not discipline.
there is a huge difference

at least someone is trying to protect children. its not as bad as it sounds. the law only applies to 0-3 year olds.
I think the outlawing of hand-slapping may be over the line.
I'm against punishment, but I understadn tapping a kids hand when they are young.

Banning violent punishments is completely different than banning all discipline.

It isn't okay to hit an adult that has done something wrong (even the smallest smack could be considered assualt), so why should it be okay to hit a child?

What I'd like to know is why you like hitting kids so much. I can't stand them either, but that doesn't mean I advocate hitting them when they do something wrong (that's what I'd like to do, but I have this thing called a conscience).

No one is trying to outlaw disciplining children. They are just saying you can't discipline children through physical violence when they are under 3 years old.

There are other ways to train little children besides smacking them around.

i agree with the comment above. there better ways to discipline a child without physically abusing them. but nevertheless, kids do need to know right and wrong.
