My son is nine months old and ready for finger foods. What can I give him? (Ideas I already have : sliced banana, cereal, toast, crackers, cookies) Many people have already suggested chopped up fruits. What kind of fruits are good for a child his age? Also, what about vegetables, are they good for finger foods? If so, what kind of vegetables are good for a child his age?

(Note: I currently cannot ask my ped. Well, I could, but she is three hours away and probably wouldn't suggest anything over the phone. We just moved and are having diffulites with changing his dr. because of medicaid.)

My son is 8 months and this is what he eats

Chopped up veggies that are tender

Whole grain grahm crackers {keebler makes some bug shaped ones}

Goldfish crackers

Small pieces of fruit such as apples, banana's, peach's

and he LOVES avocados

Gerber Fruit and Veggie puffs they are small enough for the babies hands and melt in the mouth.

We also give him tiny pieces of meat.

He doesnt do to good on toast Im not sure why but give him those alvadaco's and the smile on his face is undescrible

Giving your child any food can cause them to have allerigies if they are allergic to it. I am 35 yrs old and can not eat beef or pork or I vomit non stop and its not because my parents fed it to me when I was a baby.

Cheerios is fun finger food. If you do chopped up food, make sure you chop it up very small, like the size of Cheerios, so he can't choke on it. You can pretty much feed him whatever fruit you want, but I would recommend stuff that's not too sticky. Small grapes cut in half work well. If you feed him veggies, only feed him soft cooked veggies that have been cooled down, as he probably doesn't have enough teeth to chew crunchy foods yet.

I give my daughter pieces of tortilla shells, crackers, an occasional cookie, slices of cheese, those finger foods you can buy at the store (way too expensive in my opinion). You can also give him soft fruits like peaches, plums, etc. Almost any vegetable is okay as long as it is cooked or steamed until it is very tender. Oh and macaroni & cheese is a good one, too. Basically, if it's pretty soft and very small, he'll be fine.

A good finger food veggie is carrots. I used to get the sliced frozen carrots and boil them till soft enough, then cut them up into smaller pieces. Also, green beans are soft enough if you steam them. It was harder for me because my daughter didn't get her first teeth in until 14 months! We were kinda limited with food choices, but she did very well with what we tried.

Cookes fruits like apple and pears are good choices...and tiny diced green beans and carrots are great. Look at the Gerber Graduates at the store (or online at their website) to see common baby finger foods (then you can create your own homemade versions).

My babies LOVED the tiny pasta shells with shredded cheese on them as one of their first foods.

I just wanted to say, DO NOT give your nine month old strawberries, like that one person said. Giving a baby strawberries can give your child a food allergy.

My son loves sliced strawberries with yogurt. As he got older he liked dipping the berries into one of those petit dannone yogurts himself.
Strawberries are really high in vitamin C.
Try cooked carrots as well.
