Ignore the person who told you to get a haircut; you don't have to if you don't want to. My own hair is just past my butt, and it doesn't look like "dead straw"; in fact, people always stop me in the stores to play with it and comment on how gorgeous and silky it is.
Ok, rant out of my system (and I suspect I'll earn some thumbs down for it...meh), moving on to answer the question:
French braids are always nice no matter what length a person's hair is (provided it's long enough to actually braid).
Do a regular braid, with a thick ribbon woven in.
Try twisting it up as though you were going to make a bun, tight against your head, but pull the ends through into a knot. Secure it with anything you want; pins, a comb, chopsticks (anything that'll hold it in place, really).

NO long hair is in type outstanding now why wreck your hair and sorry its gonna seem HIDEOUS in case you do save long hair straighten it or curl it try distinctive varieties which will make you nevertheless seem such as you have short hair

That is soooooo cool! Mine used to reach halfway down my back and one of my favourites is to twist sections and pin them on the back of the head, all in one in snakes nest type shape. The next day if you let them out carefully they look like really really tight ringlets or soft dreads.

Don't cut it!!!! ignore those other bastards.
I'd say braids, or try braiding it after you've washed it, leave them in for the night and take them out in the morning and you'll have prettifull currrls

aww, leave your hair open.. or just take some of the hair out of your face , so they are not in your way and fix them with nice clips on the back

have it cut, long hair always makes me think it just looks like dead straw (no offence) with no life of its own, shorter bouncy hair much nicer
