Common police personality traits:
Authoritarian Aggression -- an aggressive attitude towards individuals or groups disliked by authorities.
Anti-Subjection -- rejection of the subjective, imaginative and aesthetic, especially concerning introspection
Substitution and Stereotypy -- superstition, cliché, categorization and fatalistic determinism
Power and Toughness -- identification with those in power, excessive emphasis on socially advocated ego qualities
Destructiveness and Cynicism -- general hostility, putting others down.

In my experaince many (not all) are Arch authoritarian; lacking control over themselves, they try to control others.
Many are mistaken in the understanding of their responsibilities when it comes to enforcing the law. While the law doesen't decide what is wrong, only if it's legal, they mistakenly decide what is right and what is wrong. This is a problem
because it poses a potential for fascist and antidemocratic leanings and behaviors.

I work in a facility for sex offenders and there are no glaringly common traits. Some are aggressive, some are meek, some seem "normal." It also depends on just what he did to get on the list. Of course your friend "didn't do it." They all say that, but they did go to trial and lose. You don't get on the list by accident. I think the more important question to ask is: "Is my friendship with a registered sex offender worth keeping?" Do you trust him? Is he doing what he needs to do to help himself, i.e. treatment/counseling?

Power trip, generally lesser educated than mainstream society, absolutely under no circumstances can anyone be employed in law enforcement if they possess a genius IQ (it is actually forbidden, in written policy), bullies, liars, often times criminals themselves who never got caught who use the police department to further their criminal enterprises under the guise of of the blue uniform.
