Is there life in the universe besides what is found on earth? Consider this: There are about 200 BILLION stars in our galaxy, which we consider to be an average sized one. In the region of space we can see with currently technology, we estimate 100-125 BILLION galaxies. And thats just in the area we can observe. We cant see it all, possibly never will. Now then being somewhat conservative, multiply 100 billion times 200 billion and you get a rough idea of the number of stars in the visible universe:
20,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 stars. 20 sextillion stars. Now, We have to date identified 160 nearby stars in our galaxy (and maybe one in another) that have planets. Given this evidence, it is fair to speculate that a significant percentage of stars will have planets orbiting them. A subset of these planets will have the correct parameters to support some kind of life (as we know it). And a subset of that set may develop intelligent life. We currently estimate (See the link) there could be about 1000 intelligences in our galaxy alone. So yes, it is quite reasonable to believe there are aliens.

Lets answer this the right way:

WE DO NOT KNOW

Now, can we speculate? Yes. Can we give ideas, yes.

There is no evidence up to now that we have seen that there is life outside out planet. But we have seen about 0.00000000000000000000001 % of the known universe, so how the hell can we tell from that? We can't.

On the other hand, what is life????? Maybe there are more kind of "life" that we don't even think that could exist. Maybe we have seen it and don't know is alive.

But if we are just looking for life as we know it here on Earth, then you have to think as possibilities and chances. Given the number of galaxies that we know are out there in the known universe, multiplied by the number of stars they can have, multiplied by the number of planets there could be around each star, we get a number too big to put here.

Life as we know it can develop in the most eccentric and unimaginable hostile places. there are chances that we might even find life in Mars, or in Europa (Jupiter's moon), and that is around the corner here, so of all those planets that are probably out there, chances are that some of them might have some kind of life.

Chances of intelligent life forms go down a lot, but still, given the number of Earth-like planets that are probably out there, there could be hundreds, thousands, or even millions of civilizations out there (note that a colony of ants could be consider a civilization).

Chances of civilizations like ours are probably minimal, but still a good number, because if we say that there is only one (1) planet like Earth on each galaxy, then there could be billion of Earth-like planets out there. Even one in a million galaxies, still we get a good number.

On the other hand, we could be the one and only in the universe. But probabilities point that there should be more out there.

But unless any of those civilizations (including us) can discover a better way to communicate and/or travel through the universe, we more likely will never know if we are alone or not.

So far we've seen no verifiable evidence of other sentient species. That said, I believe with some certainty that somewhere in our galaxy at some past, present, or future time, a sentient species did/does/will exist.

Why haven't we heard from them?

Perhaps they are not technologically advanced enough to be heard. They may be mastering stone knives right now, or experiencing their own Rennaisance.

Perhaps they are here right now. Any species sufficiently advanced to travel interstellar distances would be able to hide or masquerade with ease. That Boeing 737 that just flew by may be a surveillance craft.

Perhaps they are so far away they will never notice us and vice versa.

Perhaps they existed a million years ago and died out.

Perhaps they will exist a million years from now.

It is really impossible to know for sure.

The Drake Equation suggests that there is sentient life out there. The Fermi Paradox casts doubt. Play around with the calculation form at the second link and see what you think.

yes there is such possibility.
there might be life form in the universe on other planet, but this life form could be of other type then the one exist on earth.for eg it may possible that life on some other planet may be sillicon based & our life sensors being only able to detect the life form that is available on our planet (carbon type) can miss it.
Another important issue is distance is also crucial question.if any form of life exist at a distance of 30,000 light years from earth ,then it is quite difficult to reach there with present available technology.
another factor is time,as life is a time variant concept.for eg if a space ship has visited our planet 4 billion years ago then it won't be able to detect any sort of life here as basic form of life evolved here 3.5 billion years ago.same is true for us ,if any of our satellite visited to a planet & found no trace of life there at that very particular moment, but there remain the possibility of evolution of life there either in past or in future.

we musn't forget what alien means. its a lifeform so it could easily be some bacteria. If by alien you mean a intelligent life form then why not its gigantic.

yes there are aliens. any where around our galaxy there are many galaxies. our scientists are researching to find another earth. there will be one day similar to ARNOLD movie, TOTAL RECALL. we shall go through the space craft like a picnic. let us wait for that.

i hope there are no aliens.Well its just a concept to divert the attention of the people. When one hears about it it feels something amazing. It is similar to the imganary story of the Harry Potter.
