I think what he means is why do you need to be? How long ago has it been since someone other that a R or D was president? And why do we have to be part of a party? Why dont we have an american citizen party?

You don't have to be. Each congressman makes their own decisions on issue, otherwise ever single vote would just fall exactly along party lines. So, make sure you do research to understand what each candidate really thinks and wants and how each vote went to see where people really stand.
I follow politics closely and I think the key to success for a third party is to choose a candidate who has moderate views that would draw support from both former dems and repubs. Instead, the only alternative parties that seem to stay around are the ones that have very extreme views to one end or the other (like the Libertarians who are completely right leaning and the green party that is left leaning). Ross Perot made his own party and at least had an effect on the general election by splitting right leaning voters between republican and his reform party giving the election to bill clinton who only received 47% of the vote.

God bless us each and everyone. I agree with you completely. If I was on a plane beside a Liberal American and a terrorist put a knife to his/ her neck I would try to take the terrorist out. I would do this even if it meant putting myself in harms way because I will protect my fellow Americans even when I disagree with their views if they are attacked unprovoked. The fact that the terrorist has a beef with our foreign policies has no relevance in the issue because the person they attacked were not trying to harm them. It is sad that all the politicians are polarizing the country for their own personal gain rather than looking for solutions for all Americans. I will disagree with policies that promote irresponsibility but that doesn't mean that I must hate the people who have a different view. Only when we work together will we truly be able to do what is best for America as a whole. It would mean that we don't each get everything we want but that we would have an understanding that we get true freedom as seen by our forefathers.

Because most people are gullible fools who are incapable of thinking for them selves. Have you ever heard, "Vote for the lesser of the two evils?" They know that they are both evil and not good, yet the choose on any way. Stupid! We need a third party in this country. We need nationalism, patriotism, constitutionalist, and originalist. Right now we have been set up and sold out by the two gangs, the dems and repubs. That is all we have is two gangs, and neither one can shoot straight. We have become a nation of the special intrest, for the special interest, and by the special interest. Everything is for sale in America, including our national identiy and our national security. Both parties are corrupt and out of touch with the American people. They're both so busy lining the pockets with pork. The people be damned. Vote Indepentent Conservative. That is all we can really do and hope for. We need to build up our Christian principle in this country if we are to survive.

Democrats are generally of the liberal mindset. Republicans are generally of the Conservative mindset. Its a general "life" way of thinking and people for the most part fall into one of these two categories. There are others, but most fall into one of these two.
The liberals believe that all that is true comes from within your own mind. If the thought comes to their head........it must be true. They hate fact. They realize that fact can be used to prove things even remotely true and that usually doesn't match the original thought that came to their head.
Conservatives have common sense and use fact and figures to form their opinion.
People usually start out in live as liberal but as they grow older and they learn about life and how to form critical thought, they become Conservative.

I agree but they don't. No, Dems are really bad about giving you a hard time for not agreeing with them or not going along with them. The Dems have made a Republican out of me... Good luck...

Damn right, to hell with partisan politics. We the People must work together to fix the problems facing our nation, not factionalize and fight amongst ourselves over piddling ideological differences.
