Unless your tower is sitting under your chair as well, you should be safe. If it is more than two feet away (which I feel certain that it is) you will be fine. (I am "erring on the side of caution" here)

Actually, we destroy hard drives by putting them into a small magnetizer, and must wear goggles for the exploding parts...
I destroy drives by passing a drive head magnet or a speaker magnet, over the aluminum top.
I keep speakers at least a foot away from them, prefer two or more feet distance. And, never get within 50 feet of an MRI machine.

No it won't, i read something about this (can't remember where) and basically your hard drive will have to be sitting on the bass shaker 24/7 for an extremely long time before anything happens to the data on the hard drive.

you would have to be very close to it ( measured in inches ) the best way to test is to use an unshielded magnetic tape as a test ( they are called cassettes and are the first thing to scramble - assuming you are one of the few who still have any ! )
if you can leave a cassette 6 inches away ( or even touching ) it for a minute or so then anything else electronic is safe
think of it as an electronic canary ( and most woofer magnets are not really all that powerful )

Shakers are meant to go under a seat.....computers brain is normally behind the dash region. You should be safe. If the computers brain is under the seat I would stay away from it as far as possible. But since the brain is chips and not an actual hard drive....you should be safe.

depite what some say here it is the size of the magnet that's important. must assume since it's under your seat it's not that big. unless your tower is on the floor next to you like mine is you should be fine.
