I've seen a set from Chicago Cutlery on Overtstock.com for about 50 dollars and it's very well rated. I got a Mundial 6 piece set and that ran about $100 and I love them.
May as well get a knife sharpener while you're at it...it will extend the life of your knives and make them safer to use. Many sets come with a sharpening steel.

You can get a good knife set (made out of good steel, that can be sharpened and will hold an edge) with the basic "cooking" knives beginning at around $250 and can range much higher. (Though the more expensive sets will generally have more knives.) Most good sets will come with a knife block and a set of matching steak knives. Make sure they are good carbon steel, and not anything "plated".

To find good knife you can search the internet. You can also call and ask a local gun shop. They would be able to help you get the knife you need.

My husband was a butcher and has tried different knives from cheap to expensive, we decided to try the Ginsu knives (it was on sale for under $20CND we got a block, six steak knives, six variety and scissors). It works great so far and the knives are quite sharp so you have to watch your fingers and they slice tomatoes with no problem.
As for the more expensive ones they work great for a while but if you don't know how to sharpen them correctly your wasting your money.
