Well most sharks don't have gill fins so the must swim constantly to keep water flowing through their gills in order to get oxygen. All that swimming requires a lot of calories so they eat. The bigger the shark the more they must eat.

Some sharks, like the nurse shark can sit still for a while though.

As an aside, there is an undersea cave for cavern off the Yucatan peninsula that has highly oxygenated water for some reason. Sharks are known to enter the cave and they can sit still there and they are pretty docile there, it make them a bit high
