It really depends on the spider. My fear factor for black widows and violin spiders is about a 7. My fear factor for garden spiders, common house spiders, and tarantulas is 0.

I'd say I merit about a 2.

One thing that just about cured me of this - my brother ran a tropical fish store. He occasionally got in some requested animals that were not fish, like lovebirds, iguanas, etc.

One afternoon (I was in HS or Jr High) I was minding the store for him for a few hours. I noticed some chinese-food-type white containers behind the counter, and thought, "Cool, he got some Chinese food." I opened one and a large hairy tarantula crawled out onto my hand.
[I know the 7-10s on the scale are squirming right now.]

To this day I'm not sure exactly how I got the tarantula back into the box without killing it, but it also taught me that even the most deadly-appearing spider can be rather tame. So this reduced me from, say, an "8" to the current "2." I just don;t particularly like spiders.

I wouldn't like to see a quarter sized toothless spider. I wouldn't scream - I'd just get rid of it.

i know it says gay men only and im not gay and im not a man BUT i also dont have an axe to grind...just wanted to say did you know that a fear of spiders stems from a fear or anxiety related to your mother? its weird. dreaming about them is related to that too...i learned that while i was in college taking psych classes. just thought it was interesting :) good luck on your poll :)

I'm not a gay man but my best friend is and he's a big guy like 6'7" and like 350 lbs. looks very intimidating and I would say his fear of spiders on a scale of 1-10 would be like 43- he screams like a girl and tells me to kill it and jumps up on the couch/ chair/ anything above the floor!

I am not really scared of spiders. BUT it looks like I am sometimes because if they just land on you all the sudden it startles me a bit.

So over all I guess a 2.

Oddly enough I am terrified of frogs. They freak me out!

I'm not too fond of conventional spiders and fear the large ones so I say 9.

However if the spider is wearing spandex and he's clinging to my balconey....I will let him in.
